The Champions League T20 (CLT20), which took place for the last time over ten years ago, is on the right track to make a bigger and better return. According to the latest reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is involved in discussions and should make key decisions concerning the revival of the tournament shortly.

The Champions T20 League was launched in 2008, with the first edition in 2009. It was supported by BCCI, Australian Cricket and South Africa Cricket, inspired by the format of the UEFA Champions League. However, the world tournament was interrupted in 2014 due to financial losses.

Plans are now underway for member councils to meet and finalize the structure and logistics of competition. One of the main challenges will be to solve the problem of multiplied property, because several franchise owners have team participations in different nations.

To supervise operations and ensure fair governance, the ICC should establish a board of directors or a similar regulatory body, as was done in the previous version of the League.

“Cricbuzz understands that international councils will soon meet to determine the methods of the league, in particular given the fact that many franchise owners have teams in several countries,” said the report.

Champions League T20 Revival Face Scale Challenge in the middle of the world arrow T20

The renewal has generated considerable excitation among fans, which are impatient to see marked clashes between the best teams of leagues such as IPL, BBL and PSL. The organizers will have to determine the scale and format of the Revive Champions League T20.

When the tournament was interrupted in 2014, the leagues based on franchises were limited to a few countries of testing. However, the T20 global landscape has grown rapidly over the past decade.

Today, there are about 11 major franchise leagues in the world, including The Hundred in England. Even associated countries like the United States and the United Arab Emirates have launched their tournaments, countries like Nepal and Canada also joining the trend.

Finding a slot machine and finalizing the teams pose challenges for the recovery of the Champions T20 League

One of the biggest obstacles to bring the T20 of the Champions League will be to find an appropriate window in an already wrapped international calendar. The organizers will also have to settle how teams from various leagues will be selected.

The BCCI and its flagship IPL should play a central role in the relaunched tournament, just as they did in the original version. In particular, the ECB, which has not participated in the previous edition, is now likely to get on board alongside Cricket Australia.

Although it is not yet confirmed which will be involved, South Africa Cricket, which was a founding member of the original League, could also be brought back to the fold.

Earlier, the BCCI, CA and CSA accepted a closure offered by Star Sports, the official broadcaster at the time. Star offered a remuneration agreement, which the advice accepted in 2015.

  1. This is absolutely ridiculos!! How can they change rules middle of season?? I been watching cricket for 15 years and never seen such unfair treatment. ICC need to answer for this disaster. Both teams had superstar players and huge fan following but still kicked out. Money talks I guess.

  2. Wait so let me get this straight… both RCB AND Peshawar Zalmi out?? How is that even possible when they had better records than half the teams qualifying? Someone explain please because I’m confuse.

  3. Oh wow, what a surprise! The ‘Champions’ League where actual champions don’t qualify. Maybe next year they should just pick teams based on Instagram followers? That would make same amount of sense as this formula lmao

  4. So according to this ‘brilliant’ new formula, winning matches doesn’t matter but some complex calculation that nobody understands does? Fantastic! Next they’ll probably eliminate teams based on jersey color or captain’s hairstyle. Makes perfect sense in bizarro cricket world.

  5. Best decision ever!! Kohli and RCB always getting special treatment but not this time haha. Babar Azam also need to learn that star power doesn’t win matches, consistency does.

  6. Yaar this is totally unfair decision!! RCB deserved to qualify man. Virat played so good throughout the tournament but still out? What kind of formula is this ICC made?? Champions League should be fair for all teams not like this biased system.

  7. Everyone acting shock but if you actually read the formula guidelines released last month you would knew this was coming. The points system clearly stated that bonus points for winning margins and penalty for heavy defeats. RCB lost 3 matches by more than 50 runs which cost them heavily in final calculations. Not rocket science peoples!!

  8. Finally someone talking sense! The new T20 formula actually make sense if you look at net run rate and head to head records. People just complaining without understanding the mathematics behind it lol

  9. I think peoples are missing the point here. The new formula consider players performance, team balance, and venue conditions all together. Its not just win-loss ratio anymore. RCB problem was they won against weak teams but lost to strong ones badly. Thats why net run rate suffered and they eliminated. Same with Peshawar.

  10. Virat Kohli fans be crying in corner right now 😂😂 Maybe if RCB actually won important matches instead of just personal milestones they would qualify no?
