  1. This is huge for KC!! Lugo was our best pitcher last season and loosing him would of been a disaster. $46M seems fair for what he brings too the rotation.

  2. For context, Lugo posted a 3.00 ERA with 181 strikeouts in 206.2 innings last year. His xFIP was 3.45 which suggests some regression but still solid. The $23M AAV puts him in the middle tier for starting pitchers, comparable too guys like Marcus Stroman and Kyle Gibson’s contracts.

  3. Oh great, another aging pitcher locked up for multiple years. Because that strategy has worked SO well for us in the past. Can’t wait to watch him struggle through year 2 while we’re still paying him millions.

  4. Way to much money for a guy whos gonna be 35. He had one good year and now there throwing money at him like hes prime Verlander or something. This front office never learns.

  5. Finally some good news! Now if we can just sign a decent closer and maybe another bat for the lineup we might actually compete next season. Lugo deserves this after what he did for us last year.

  6. So we’re really betting $46 million on a guy who spent most of his career as a reliever? One season as a starter and suddenly he’s worth this much? I dont get it.

  7. Does anyone actually think he’ll live up too this contract? His peripherals weren’t even that great last year, he just got lucky with a low BABIP. Classic case of a player getting paid for one fluke season. This’ll look terrible in 18 months.

  8. Everyone saying this is a overpay but who exactly were we suppose to sign instead?? The free agent market for starters is terrible and we would of paid more for worse. At least Lugo knows the team and performed well here.

  9. $23 million per year for Seth Lugo in 2025. Just let that sink in for a moment. We’re truly living in a golden age of baseball economics where this makes perfect sense to someone. Next we’ll be paying $50M for a utility infielder who bats .240.

  10. Honestly not mad about this. Yeah its alot of money but pitching wins championships and we need stability in the rotation. Rather have Lugo than gamble on injury prone guys or unproven prospects.

  11. Solid move by the front office! Lugo really embraced KC and the fans love him. Leadership in the clubhouse matters to and hes been great with the younger pitchers.
