India may have finished day 4 of the fourth test on the back, but Dinesh Karthik thinks that Shubman Gill shows the type of leadership that can transform adversity into a legacy. While England pushed strongly for a victory, Gill and Kl Rahul stood firm, guiding India to 174 for 2 after a higher order had left them 1 for 2 at lunch. Speaking during the broadcast, Karthik made a powerful comparison between Gill’s Knock and the emblematic 156 of Ricky Ponting to Old Trafford in the Ashes of 2005. “Yesterday, we showed the Ponting contribution in this Ashes series. He said that it was his best hundred people because he ended up saving this match in this field 20 years ago.” According to Karthik, this kind of inspiration is what Gill will need. “He’s on the same path. He is the new chef, has just been appointed captain of India. He showed what he can do with the bat, “he said.

India vs England Rain, Can weather forecast: Can Shubman Gill-Kl Rahul make a magnificent drawing?

Gill’s 78 undefeated 78 was under pressure after the dramatic collapse of India during the morning session, Chris Woakes taking two counters in two balls. But the way the 24 -year -old responded gave Karthik the confidence that Gill has the qualities to lead in difficult times. “There is another opportunity for him to assert himself as a leader. Come on the difficult moment, he will be there for the team. He will win so many players in the locker room. The belief is that he is the fighter for us,” added Karthik.

  1. This is just media hype as usual. Gill averages what, 35 in England conditions? And we comparing him to Ponting now? Give me a break. Let the boy play without these stupid comparisions.

  2. DK is absolutely spot on here!! Gill has that class and temprament what we need at old trafford. Hope he play big inning like Ponting did back then.

  3. What nonsense comparison is this?? Ponting was a legend with proven record in all conditions. Gill still needs to prove himself consistantly. DK should stop overhyping young players, puts too much presure on them.

  4. Oh yes, because comparing every young Indian batsman to legends has worked so well in the past. Next we’ll hear Gill is the next Bradman probably?

  5. But Ponting had already faced England bowlers multiple times before 2005! How can you compare Gill who struggled against short ball? This comparison makes no sense at all. DK is just being a typical ex-player hyping up his teamates.

  6. Yeah sure, Gill will score 156 just like Ponting… right after I win the lottery and India declares Karthik as prime minister. Dream big DK, dream big!

  7. For those who dont remember, Ponting scored 156 in the 2005 Ashes at Old Trafford in first innings. That inning came in a losing cause but it was masterclass in technique. The pitch there typically offers something for seamers early on and then flattens out. Gill’s technique against swing will be tested for sure.

  8. Interestingly, Old Trafford has historically been good for batting in the second half of matches. India’s strategy should be to bat second if they win toss. Weather forecast also looking stable which means less swing bowling advantage for England. Gill’s record against pace in county cricket was actually quite impressive if anyone bothered to check the stats.

  9. So according to DK logic, if Ponting scored 156 and still lost the match, Gill should also score big and lose? Or may be Gill will score 56 and we’ll win? Someone explain this maths to me please.

  10. Gill walking into Old Trafford thinking he’s Ponting and then realizing Anderson and Broad are still playing cricket somehow in 2024 😂😂 Man’s gonna need more than DK’s blessings!

  11. Breaking news: Dinesh Karthik discovers time machine, sends Gill back to 2005 to become Ponting. More updates at 11. In other news, Indian cricket experts continue to have nothing better to do than make random comparisions 🤣

  12. Finally someone said it! Gill has been in good form and old trafford pitch will suit his style. I beleive he can deliver big time.
