The East Carolina head coach Michael Schwartz has accepted an extension of one year that takes place throughout the 2027-28 season.

Friday, the agreement was approved by the university board of directors and announced by the school on Saturday morning.

Schwartz, 48, has a brand of 50-49 in three seasons with the pirates. He was hired as a 24th head coach in the history of the program on March 16, 2022.

“I am very appreciable by the Chancellor (Philip G.) Rogers and Jon Gilbert for their faithful support for our basketball program,” said Schwartz. “I love being a pirate and being part of this large community. We know the hard work and the dedication that is needed to gain at a high level, and we have a staff and a group of young men engaged in our vision. We continue to add pieces to our list for the coming season and the young men that we bring in our program are high that will be big additions to our culture.”
