Washington Sundar exceeded the brand 50 points 5 times and three of them came to Sena countries.

Washington Sundar has finally scored his maiden Test century. After getting stuck at 96 against England in 2021 at Ahmedabad, the all-rounder has finally gotten the elusive milestone to his name. The Manchester Test was going into England’s lap even after KL Rahul and Shubman Gill’s vigil.

But staunch resistance from Washington and Ravindra Jadeja has kept England at bay and India in contention to level the series at The Oval.

Washington Sundar Bails India Out of Trouble

He came in at a time when India had lost two wickets—KL Rahul for 90 and then skipper Shubman Gill for 103. But Washington looked like a man on a mission. He blocked everything that came his way and looked in no hurry. What helped him from the other end was that even Jadeja looked pretty assured at the crease.

That meant no unnecessary risks were taken, as Washi struck his first fifty in Tests since December 2024, when he scored one in the Melbourne Test against Australia. In short, this fifty came after eight innings for the southpaw, who is constantly under pressure to justify his position in the Test team.

Maiden Test hundred

Washington continued to play the ball on its merit. Draw was the only thing on his mind. But after Ben Stokes asked India to shake hands and end the match, he really let it loose. In the 140th over, Washington struck three consecutive boundaries to enter the 90s.

Jadeja also scored a hundred, but Washi had to wait a couple of overs. In the 143rd over, he hit a boundary over covers and then took a double on the leg side to bring up his maiden Test hundred. And what better time to do it?

  1. What an absolut gem of a player Sundar is! His maiden century couldnt have come at better time for India. The way he constructed his inning was pure class and showed why team management have faith in him. Kuldeep is great bowler no doubt but Sundar batting ability give that extra dimension to team balance.

  2. But your missing the whole point! Test cricket is about taking 20 wickets and Kuldeep is far superior bowler than Sundar will ever be. Yes batting depth is nice but whats the use if you cant bowl out opposition twice? This is exactly whats wrong with modern cricket – to much focus on batting stats and not enought on actual match winning bowling.

  3. This century vindicate the team management decision completly. Sundar have always been underated player who brings multiple skills to table. Yes some will argue about Kuldeep wicket taking ability but in overseas condition where pitches dont turn much, having someone who can contribute with both bat and ball is invaluble. His temperment under presure is also commendable aspect that gets overlooked to often.

  4. Oh yes, absolutely brilliant selection! Lets drop our best spinner for someone who can bat a bit. I’m sure the opposition batsman are terrified when Sundar comes on to bowl. Next we should probably open with the wicketkeeper because hey, they can also hold a bat right?

  5. For those intrested in numbers: Sundar now averages 38.6 with the bat in Test cricket which is remarkble for an all-rounder. His bowling average of 32.4 is decent too. Compare this to Kuldeep’s batting average below 10, the team balance argument becomes clear. Plus Sundar has taken wickets in cricial moments through out his carrier.

  6. Wow a maiden century! Give this man the captaincy immedietly. Actually why stop their? Make him coach, selector, and maybe even BCCI president while we at it. I mean one good knock clearly makes someone indispensible.

  7. Meanwhile Kuldeep sitting at home googling ‘how to bat like Sundar’ 😂 But seriously tho, imagine being dropped for your batting when your literally a bowler. Thats like getting fired from IT job because you cant make good coffee lmao

  8. I dont understand the hype honestly. One good inning doesnt make someone irreplacable. Kuldeep have proven track record as specialist spinner and we’re loosing that just for some lower order runs? This selecton policy is very short sighted in my opinon.
