Australia played their last ODI against India when they lost the semi-final of the Champions Trophy.

Australia has appointed their ODI and T20I teams for the next series of white bullets against South Africa, with Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood returning to both formats after being rested for the Antilles tour. The series, from August 10, will start the start of summer at home in Australia and will be played through Darwin, Cairns and Mackay.

Mitchell Owen wins an Odi first call

One of the main discussion points is the selection of Mitchell Owen, who receives his first ODI call after an impressive first T20I series against the Antilles, where he scored 125 points at a 192.30 strike pace. The explosive versatile has been accelerated in the 50 side, filling the average vacuum left by the recent retirements by Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell. It was he who replaced Maxwell in the configuration of the Kings of Punjab (PBKS) also at IPL 2025.

Lance Morris also goes to the ODI team, adding a raw rhythm to the attack. Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne, recently passed on the test side, retains its place Odi. Australia continues to manage the workloads of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, which remain rested. In the absence of Cummins, Mitchell Marsh will be captain of the ODI team, having already led the T20i team to a 5-0 scan on the Antilles.

The selectors also reduced the T20 Squad to 14, with Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Cooper Connolly and Xavier Bartlett missing despite the series in the Caribbean series. However, Bartlett returns for the ODI alongside Alex Carey and Xavier Bartlett.

  1. Does anyone else think Head looks like that one uncle at every BBQ who insists he can still play cricket? No? Just me? Anyway glad he’s back his batting is mint

  2. So Cummins is out with “workload management” but Hazlewood who’s made of paper mache is fine to play? Make it make sense lmao. Also does Head have some kind of insurance policy we don’t know about cause the guys always getting injured then coming back

  3. Everyone saying Cummins should be there but honestly our pace attack is still one of the best even without him?? We got Hazlewood, Starc, and probably Boland too. Stop acting like we cant win.

  4. No Cummins?? Are they serious right now? Our best bowler and captain and they just leave him out like that. This selection panel has lost there minds completely.

  5. Can’t wait to watch Australia struggle without there captain and then everyone acts surprised when things go wrong. Its almost like having your best players actually matters who knew

  6. Finally Head is back! Our batting lineup was looking so weak without him tbh. Hope he stays fit for the whole series this time.

  7. For those wondering, Cummins is likely being rested as part of workload managment. Hazlewood and Starc should be more than capable of leading the attack in South Africa. Head’s return is crucial given his recent form – averaged 65+ in his last 10 tests.

  8. Oh great, so now we’re just gonna rest our captain during a crucial series against South Africa. What could possibly go wrong lol

  9. Why does everyone act like South Africa is still good?? There not the team they used to be and we’ll win easy even without Cummins

  10. Great news!! Head and Hazlewood both back is huge for us. South Africa better watch out cause we’re coming in hot this time

  11. Hazlewood returns! The man made of glass actually made it through training without breaking something. Miracles do happen I guess

  12. Honestly this is a disaster waiting to happen. No Cummins means no leadership on field and Hazlewood will probably get injured after 2 games like always. We’re gonna loose this series badly mark my words.

  13. Travis Head’s inclusion makes sense – he’s been in red hot form. The South African pitches will suit his aggressive style of play perfectly. Interesting to see who captains in Cummins absense though.
