Indian opener Kl Rahul became emotional by speaking of her daughter, Evaarah, during the fourth test between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester. Rahul admitted that it was difficult to leave his family to join the national team for the series of high challenges.
Rahul and his wife, actress Athiya Shetty welcomed their daughter on March 24, 2025, during the 2025 season. The cricket player made a brief pause of two days before joining the Capitals of Delhi (DC), then went to England in early June for the five -game test series.
Rahul shared that he had a difficult conversation with his family before deciding to leave his newborn daughter and play for India has in the warm-up games before the main series.
“Yeah, it’s a good time in my life for my family. I have always loved children. I have always wanted children for a long time. So I have made my family and I, really, really happy. We are in an ideal place. It is a beautiful little girl. It brought so much happiness in our lives,” Rahul told Chetehwar Pujara on Sony Sports.
Rahul expressed his gratitude to his wife and family for their unshakable support during the tour in England. He shared that they understood how important the series was for his professional career and was standing next to the emotional challenge of leaving his newborn daughter behind. The first-rate striker, who scored an impressive 421 points, including two centuries in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, admitted that being far from his daughter was quite difficult.
“I did a little (father’s tasks), but unfortunately, two days after birth, I had to play IPL game. And I tried in the breaks that we had during the IPL to go back for a few days and then finish the IPL. It was really difficult to make this decision to come here and play India a game too because I had not spent time with her and I knew when I came here, I will not see her other months.
Rahul revealed that he frequently checked the baby’s instructor to watch his daughter, making sure that he does not lack precious moments as she grows up.
“So, I came here. So, I haven’t seen her and I continue to see her photos and I am always on the baby camera. Make sure that I don’t miss anything or any part of his growth. So, this is a difficult thing to do when you travel and you play and that you miss every day. It didn’t see it,” he concluded.

For those who dont know, England tour was 2 months long and his daughter was only 6 month old at that time. Players usually can bring family but COVID protocols made it very difficult. Also he scored 315 runs in 4 test matchs during that tour so performace wise he was actualy very good despite the personal struggles he was facing.
Respect to KL for being vulnerble and sharing this. As father myself I can relate to his pain completly, being seperated from your baby girl during those important early months must been incredibly hard especally during pandemic when travel was so restricted.
Oh wow so brave of him to miss his child while staying in 5 star hotels and earning crores. My heart is truly broken for this poor soul.
I think people should show more empathy here no? Money cant buy the time with your childrens. He is also human being with emotions not just cricket machine.

This is so emotinal moment for Rahul. Being away from family is toughest thing for any player specially when you have small baby at home. Much respect for him opening up like this honestly.
Why he even go then? Nobody force him to play cricket. He chose this life, he earn millions, now complaining about missing family? Please stop this drama for sympathy.
Everyone acting like he is only player with family LOL. What about other players? they also have kids but you dont see them crying in interview. This is professional sport not kindergarden.
Yeah sure missing daughter but performance was average at best. If he really cared so much why not take break? Oh wait because he knows he will lose his spot in team if he does.
